2010 Western/Ivey Annual Dinner Hong Kong Chapter and Convocation

The 2010 Convocation on the afternoon of May 17th, 2010 marked the end of a two year journey for 35 distinct individuals brought together by the Richard Ivey School of Business’ Hong Kong campus at the Hong Kong Conference & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). These individuals, coming from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Taiwan and the USA, spent the very first two weeks of their EMBA program on the exact premise in which the Convocation was held.

Looking back at the past two years, there were certainly many bittersweet memories. As Alexander Jaeschke, the Valedictorian of the Class of 2010, pointed out in his speech, not only did we excel in the courses while juggling family commitments and work, we did so during the worst economic recession in world’s history. From complete strangers, the Class of 2010 bonded together to become a very close knit group.

The night before this momentous occasion, Ivey held its Annual Dinner at the HKCEC. A total of more than 220 guests arrived that evening dressed elegantly to match the dinner’s James Bond theme. This dinner was particularly special, not only for the Class of 2010, but also those from 2005 and 2000, as this year marks there Five and Ten year anniversary respectively. The Class of 2000 are infamously nicknamed “The Guinea Pigs” as they are the very first EMBA Class in Hong Kong.

These two days in May were very significant for the graduating class, but also for Ivey, as it further cements its position as one of the leading education institute not only in Canada but also Asia.
