Managing in a world of volatile exchange rates – The case of the Mexican Peso Crisis
In this session, we will tackle a contemporary problem in the global environment of business – exchange rate volatility – by drawing lessons from a pivotal episode in the past, the Mexican Peso Crisis of 1994.
This will be an interactive, case-based session. We will, in fact, look at several firms who were operating in Mexico at the time of the crisis and explore questions such as: How did the crisis impact this firm? What could managers of these firms do to lessen the impact – or even take advantage of latent opportunities stemming from the crisis? What lessons can be drawn for firms operating in today’s environment where currency movements are once again a key macroeconomic issue?
For this session, case information will be presented in real time by Professor Frost. There is no advance preparation required. Participants should, however, be fully prepared to engage in the classroom discussion.
