“Doing Business in India” Case Study Discussion lead by Ivey Professor Ariff Kachra

Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 6 to 8 p.m., First Canadian Place Gallery, Toronto

The Toronto Alumni Chapter and the Richard Ivey School of Business invite you to join us for an after-work event titled: “Doing Business in India”. Awarding winning Professor Ariff Kachra, Ph.D. will lead us through a traditional Ivey case study discussion that will highlight the challenges and opportunities of doing business in India.

According to the International Monetary Fund the Indian economy is worth US$1.632 trillion; it is the world’s ninth-largest economy by market exchange rates. With its average annual GDP growth rate of 5.8% over the past two decades, and reaching 10.4% during 2010, India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.  According to a 2011 PwC report, India’s GDP at purchasing power parity will overtake Japan’s during 2011; by 2045 it will surpass that of the United States. During the next four decades, Indian GDP is expected to grow at an annualized average of 8%, making it potentially the world’s fastest growing major economy until 2050. This is due to a young and rapidly growing working-age population; growth in the manufacturing sector due to rising education and engineering skill levels; and sustained growth of the consumer market driven by a rapidly growing middle class (www.wikipedia.org).
