Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 5:30 to 8 p.m., Albany Club, Sir John A MacDonald Room, 91 King Street East, Toronto

Join us for a premium Scotch and Whiskey tasting to kick off the holiday season. Registration includes tasting of six different high-end scotches led by an experienced scotch connoisseur. Appetizers will be served.

Ivey's volunteer team has finalized the scotch selection:

  1. Glenmorangie Signet – This is a showstopper, a big and bold departure for a single-malt brand otherwise known for delicacy. As rich as its dark-amber hue would suggest, it puts an extra 'o' in 'smooth.' Syrupy-dense, the Glenmorangie Signet, bottled at 46-per-cent alcohol, gracefully weaves together a rich tapestry of fine Scotch nuances: dried fruit, toasted nuts, dried cereal, cocoa, vanilla, coffee and toasty oak.
  2. Bruichladdich Black Art – Working with the very finest American and French oak to explore that most esoteric relationship between spirit and wood, Black Art is Master Distiller Jim McEwan's personal voyage into the heart of Bruichladdich. Deep amber with a hint of cloudiness; lifting the veil of peat smoke allows a clear impression of un-peated Islay character. Rich malty sweetness and a salty/savoury tang on the palate is true Islay style; smooth and silky mouthfeel, with alcohol presenting with just a whisper; the finish is long and satisfying.
  3. Highland Park 18 yr old  – Named as 'Best Spirit in the World' by F Paul Pacult of the Spirit Journal in 2005. Pacult wrote: 'After 25 years' experience, it fits my profile of what makes a perfect whisky, which is to say it's totally in harmony, there are no rough edges and everything is melded together brilliantly.'
  4. Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy – Introduced by Irish Distillers in 2011 as part of the relaunched range of pot still whiskies, The Barry Crockett Legacy is named for the Midleton master distiller and combines bourbon cask matured whisky with some from a new American oak barrel. A great entry into the Midleton line-up which has been showered with awards since it first appeared on the horizon.
  5. Auchentoshan 21 year old – A 21 year old single malt, triple distilled and aged in second fill sherry casks, though nothing is lost to the power of the sherry. This bottling stands as the flagship for the core Auchentoshan range.
  6. Balvenie 12 year old – One of the classic after-dinner malts, Balvenie Doublewood's extra complexity and richness are a result of a second maturation in fresh sherry casks. Great stuff.
