Robert Fonn
Robert Fonn, LL.B., Partner, DLA Piper

Robert Fonn’s practice is focused on corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions. Robert has particular experience dealing with domestic and cross-border transactions (including friendly and contested take-over bids and proxy contests). Robert represents financial institutions, investment dealers, private equity sponsors, venture capital funds and a broad range of public and private companies in diverse industries, including technology, financial services, healthcare, life sciences, media, software, automotive, manufacturing, mineral resource and real estate. Robert counsels corporations in all aspects of corporate and commercial activity, including listings on stock exchanges and dealings with provincial securities commissions. He also advises reporting issuers in connection with securities compliance and corporate governance matters.

Alison Gordon
Alison Gordon, Chief Executive Officer, 48North Cannabis Corp.

Alison is a veteran of the Canadian cannabis industry, bringing unique experience and relationships to her role as Chief Executive Officer of 48North. A skilled marketer, she is celebrated for her ability to shift public opinion and consumer behaviour and has been named one of Canada’s Top 10 Marketers by Marketing magazine. As co-founder of Rethink Breast Cancer, Alison is credited with growing a new generation of young breast cancer supporters, compelled by her groundbreaking communication and pharmaceutical expertise in the healthcare realm. Today, Alison is applying her skills to 48North’s business plan in this new era of the cannabis industry. She is on the Board of Directors for the Cannabis Canada Council.

 

Steve Winokur
Steve Winokur, MBA, MSc, Managing Director, Head of Healthcare Investment Banking, Canaccord Genuity Corp

With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, Steve is the Head of Healthcare Investment Banking at Canaccord Genuity Corp, managing all transactions Canaccord Genuity participates in across the Canadian healthcare, industrial technology and power & utilities sectors. His significant expertise ranges across IPOs, RTOs, follow-on offerings, private placements and advisory services. Steve has completed hundreds of transactions since joining the industry in 1997. Most recently, Steve has become involved in the emerging Canadian and U.S. cannabis industry, having advised on over 75 corporate finance and M&A transactions in the space since January 1, 2016. Notable transactions include over $600 million raised for Aurora Cannabis Inc., the $3.2 billion sale of MedReleaf Corp. to Aurora Cannabis Inc., the $115 million initial public offering of Charlotte’s Web Holdings, Inc., and the $1.2 billion acquisition of Cannimed Therapeutics by Aurora Cannabis Inc. Steve, alongside Canaccord Genuity, has hosted numerous industry conferences in the space, with more than 50 presenting public and private companies. His significant expertise ranges across IPOs, RTOs, follow-on offerings, private placements and advisory services. Steve has an MBA and MSc from the University of Toronto.

Derek Sigel
Derek Sigel, LL.B., Partner, DLA Piper

Derek Sigel practises in the areas of securities, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions as well as general corporate/commercial law. He primarily focuses on the technology, electronic commerce, telecommunications and resource sectors. Derek has significant experience advising domestic and international clients on all aspects of Canadian securities law.  Derek represents both issuers and underwriters in a wide range of financing transactions, including domestic and cross-border initial public offerings, secondary offerings, bought deal financings and private placements. His practice also involves stock exchange listings, stockholder arrangements, corporate reorganizations and venture capital fund formation. Derek has acted on numerous venture capital financings on behalf of both investee companies as well as Canadian and US venture capital investors. Derek generally acts for entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises, as well as for a number of investment dealers and other providers of capital. Derek has acted for clients in a variety of corporate acquisitions and dispositions, particularly in the technology industry. Derek counsels issuers, boards of directors, special committees and other transaction participants in various merger and acquisition matters, and in connection with take-over bids, proxy fights, stock exchange requirements and various corporate governance issues.
